Friday's here...a great weekend to all.
We say that the hour of death cannot be forecast, but when we say this we imagine that hour as placed in an obscure and distant future. It never occurs to us that it has any connection with the day already begun or that death could arrive this same afternoon, this afternoon which is so certain and which has every hour filled in advance.

One day some people came to the master
and asked: How can you be happy
in a world of such impermanence,
where you cannot protect your loved ones
from harm, illness or death?
The master held up a glass and said:
Someone gave me this glass;
It holds my water admirably
and it glistens in the sunlight.
I touch it and it rings!
One day the wind
may blow it off the shelf,
or my elbow
may knock it from the table.
I know this glass is already broken,
so I enjoy it -- incredibly.
Let's make the best of each day folks! Love to all.

I blogged about this at http://acts17verse28.blogspot.com/2009/06/insights-toward-end-of-life.html the other day - a friend is dying and offered some thoughts about living with dying. I hope you'll enjoy his thoughts as much as I do.
