News Worthy: There is always "Plan B"
In New York today a federal judge ordered the FDA to make the so-called "morning-after pill" available to 17 year old girls without a prescription. What?! No wait -- without a prescription AND without parental consent. And, this judge actually went on to tell the FDA to consider making the drug available to girls regardless of age. His ruling came following a suit filed against the FDA by activists back in January of 2005. In his order, the judge stated that the FDA had let politics during the Bush administration get in the way of its judgment. When are we going to leave politics out of morality? When?
This contraceptive pill which goes by the name of Plan B is a bomb. A high dose of birth control pills, made out of a hormone called levonorgestrel, which prevents ovulation. If taken after ovulation already has occurred, it prevents fertilization of the egg. If taken after fertilization of the egg has occurred, it can lead to abortion. Notably, there are no sufficient scientific studies to date on the long-term effects of this drug, its dosage or repeated use. So who knows what health problems these girls may experience from its usage down the road. Add to that predicament the fact that by being able to obtain this drug over the counter, most of these sexually active minor girls will opt to bypass the routine doctor's visit which is so important in screening for other health conditions such as sexually transmitted diseases.
I don't know folks. You have to be 21 to buy alcohol, right?. And pot is illegal at any age, no? But at 17 you can buy an abortion pill? So yes another ruling on the side of promoting sexual license for teens. Because there's always Plan B of course. [...sigh...!!]

It never ceases to amaze me how we cannot touch a hair on a spotted owl without pulling 500 permits but for a minor to get an abortion pill they can go to Walgreen's . Our forefathers must be turning in their graves
